A linear shower drain is only as good as its grate. The channel body is hidden beneath the tile, but the grate sits on the surface - it is the one part everyone sees, touches, and walks on. Why Grate Style Matters
The grate must allow water entry, support foot traffic, resist corrosion, and match the tile aesthetic. A poorly chosen grate undermines the whole design.
The Four Main Grate Patterns
1. Linear Slot Grate
The most common pattern: narrow parallel slots running the full length of the drain (5-8mm wide). Best for modern minimalist bathrooms and large-format tiles. Open slot area 30-40% gives excellent drainage.
2. Decorative / Geometric Grate
Repeated geometric shapes (squares, diamonds, circles) instead of straight slots. Best for design-forward bathrooms and patterned encaustic tiles. Open area 20-30%.
3. Tile-In / Infill Grate
A frame that accepts a piece of your floor tile. The drain becomes nearly invisible. The premium seamless look for luxury wet rooms.
4. Perforated / Round Hole Grate
A field of small punched holes. Best for commercial kitchens and public restrooms.
Finish Options
- Brushed Stainless Steel: Default, hides water spots, most versatile
- Matte Black PVD: Deep non-reflective black, pairs with black tapware and dark tiles
